Having personally gone through the system herself, Attorney Lisa Baker Canterberry deeply understands the divorce process and family law guidelines in Texas. She brings more than 30 years of professional legal experience to the firm and has represented clients in and out of the courtroom. She has an acute sense of empathy and understanding of what’s in her clients’ hearts and minds and will do her best to protect their interests in negotiations.
A native of Oklahoma, Attorney Canterberry earned her Bachelor’s in Business Administration/Accounting from the University of Oklahoma in 1985, with additional studies in French and Theater, the latter of which comes in handy as she presents herself confidently and assertively in the courtroom. Following graduation, she moved to the Dallas area and worked as in internal auditor for the banking industry before successfully passing the Certified Public Accountant’s examination in 1987. With those credentials, Attorney Canterberry worked for Grant Thornton, performing audits of manufacturing and retail concerns, as well as of non-profit organizations and banks.
Attorney Canterberry eventually realized she had a passionate desire to help families in crisis, so she turned to a career in law. Attending Southern Methodist University School of Law, she was active in student government, received the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law, and served as the Vice-Magister for Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. Earning early recognition for her aptitude in the courtroom, she was one of four students chosen to participate on SMU’s National Trial Team and participated in American Trial Lawyer Association competitions. She earned her Juris Doctorate in 1991 and accepted a position with a small local firm.
The following year in 1992, Attorney Canterberry opened her own law firm and for the past 30 years has focused on family law. While her firm accepts cases in criminal, guardianship, estate planning, and business matters, it concentrates primarily on the family relationship. With her fierce dedication to her clients, you can trust that you want Attorney Canterberry on your side in family litigation.
When not practicing law, Attorney Canterberry can be found on various ball fields, supporting her son in his athletic pursuits, and playing softball (she has a wicked curve ball). She is also an accomplished musician and enjoys writing and playing in her rarely found spare time. Her hobbies include cooking, event-planning, involvement in her church community, and researching family genealogy.
